At Angels Nest, Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs) are a cornerstone of how we stabilize, support, and empower youth in transition.

Treating mental health concerns helps to improve the lives of our youth as they navigate school, work, home and their relationships with peers. Not to mention, 45% of individuals with mental health conditions have comorbid diagnosis which increases the intensity of distress. For example, alcohol and drug use can present as coexisting conditions. When untreated, conditions become chronic and begin to present as physical illnesses by affecting major organs. For these reasons, immediate attention to mental health is critical to the overall ability to live a healthy lifestyle.

Seeking the service of mental health professionals is essential. Our clinical partners include qualified mental health professionals (QMHPs), licensed professional counselors (LPCs), licensed mental health counselors (LMHCs), psychologists, and psychiatrists. Services are not limited to:

Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA)
Individual Service Plan (ISP)
Psychosocial Assessment
Medication Management
Psychological Evaluation

**In some cases, a referral for temporary inpatient services with a return home plan may be needed. Frequency and duration of services are individually determined.

Understanding the Role

what is a QMHP?

In 2026, a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) is a state-recognized behavioral health designation for practitioners trained to provide collaborative, community-based mental health services—most often within publicly funded or nonprofit systems. QMHPs work as part of a care team and focus on functional improvement and stability, not independent psychotherapy.

Typical Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a human services field such as psychology, social work, counseling, or sociology

Experience

Approximately 1,500–3,000 hours of supervised, direct service with individuals experiencing mental health challenges

Registration

Credentialed or registered with a state regulatory body (requirements vary by state)

Supervision

Practice under a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

QMHP is also an umbrella designation that may include licensed professionals such as LPCsLCSWs, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) when they are functioning within QMHP-eligible roles.
