We are in the final stages of our very own client choice food pantry and Nutrition Center located in Houston, Texas. The concept allows for client choice by way of a grocery store model. Youth and families will be able to choose grocery items from the shelves in person. The dietary restrictions, food preferences, and nutritional needs of youth and families will be honored. This model offers food with dignity not food for trash which is where undesired food items are placed with traditional pantry models. In addition, youth and families will have volunteer opportunities while learning valuable employment and life skills. Our food pantry allows youth to engage with community members and families. Volunteer opportunities include stocking, categorizing food items, logging information and food items into database, customer intake, cooking and hospitality. Youth and families will also learn basic food handling and kitchen safety skills. Our food pantry will be streamlined into a full Nutrition Center with an onsite kitchen and training.
