Our QMHPs deliver goal-directed, strengths-based interventions designed to help young people navigate complex life changes while building the skills needed to thrive at home, in school, at work, and within their communities.
At Angels Nest, Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs) are a cornerstone of how we stabilize, support, and empower youth in transition.
Understanding the Role
what is a QMHP?
In 2026, a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) is a state-recognized behavioral health designation for practitioners trained to provide collaborative, community-based mental health services—most often within publicly funded or nonprofit systems. QMHPs work as part of a care team and focus on functional improvement and stability, not independent psychotherapy.

Typical Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a human services field such as psychology, social work, counseling, or sociology
Experience
Approximately 1,500–3,000 hours of supervised, direct service with individuals experiencing mental health challenges
Registration
Credentialed or registered with a state regulatory body (requirements vary by state)
Supervision
Practice under a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
QMHP is also an umbrella designation that may include licensed professionals such as LPCs, LCSWs, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) when they are functioning within QMHP-eligible roles.
