Career Readiness for Foster Youth
Five lessons on getting hired and staying hired. Filling out an application, writing a resume, sending an email that gets answered, showing up right, and what a boss actually expects once you have the job.
- 5 video lessons
- 33 minutes total
- 5 quizzes
- Student workbook
- Certificate at 80 percent
- Watch on your phone
This class is not open to the public.
Angels Nest built it for the young people in our programs and the partners who work with them. Tell us who you are and we will set up your login.
A staff member answers within two business days.
What you walk away with
By the end you will have written the documents, not just watched someone talk about them.
- A finished resume you can send to a real employer
- An application filled out without the gaps that get people screened out
- A professional email address and a message that gets a reply
- An answer ready for the questions interviewers actually ask
- A clear picture of what gets people fired in the first month
- A certificate with your name on it, signed by our executive director
The five lessons
Each one is a short video followed by a quiz. You need 80 percent on every quiz to earn the certificate.
-
The job application process
Where the jobs actually are, how to read a posting, and how to fill out an application so it does not get thrown out on a technicality.
-
Creating a resume
Building a resume when you do not have years of experience yet. What counts as experience, what to leave off, and how to lay it out.
-
Professional correspondence
Email and phone. Subject lines, tone, following up without being a pest, and what a professional voicemail sounds like.
-
Professional presentation
How to show up. Dress, timing, body language, and how to handle the first five minutes of an interview.
-
Professional expectations
What the job expects once you are hired. Attendance, feedback, mistakes, and the unwritten rules nobody tells you.
What comes with it
- The videosNarrated by Malika Bruno, our executive director. About 33 minutes across five lessons.
- The workbookA fill in workbook covering all five lessons, as a PDF and an editable Word file.

Who this is for
Young people in and aging out of foster care, the staff and case managers who work with them, and partner organizations running their own programs. If you are not sure whether that describes you, send the request anyway and we will talk it through.
There is no cost, no deadline, and no catch. The class is free because Angels Nest built it for this exact purpose.
Ready to start?
Send us a request and a staff member will set up your login. You can ask for more than one class at a time.
